Privacy Policy for Vocabeam
Last updated: 18 August 2026
Vocabeam ("the App", "we", "us") is a language-learning app that recognises objects in your photos and teaches you their names in the language you are learning. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App handles, why, and what your choices are.
We designed Vocabeam to work without accounts and to keep your learning data on your device.
1. No account required
You do not create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying information to use the App.
2. Photos and camera
- When you take a photo in the App, or choose an existing photo from your photo library, that photo is sent to our AI processing provider for a single purpose: to detect the objects visible in it and return their names and translations.
- The photo is processed only to generate that result. It is not used to build a profile of you, is not used for advertising, and is not used to train AI models.
- The photo is processed transiently and is not stored on our servers after the recognition result is returned.
- The photo itself, together with the recognised words, stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
- Access to your camera and photo library is requested only when you use the corresponding feature, and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
3. Data stored on your device
The following is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us:
- your native language and the language you are learning;
- your saved words, translations, and per-language dictionaries;
- your review/spaced-repetition progress and scheduling data;
- your streak and daily activity data;
- your app settings, and the number of scans used today (to apply the free daily limit);
- whether you have completed onboarding.
